For Veterans Day, I am re-posting this column.
Although I often kid that Veterans Day is a day when military veterans across the country can’t get their mail, in truth Veterans Day has received more attention from citizens and advertisers alike in recent years – likely due to the many Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans that have been re-joining society recently, and perhaps also as national penance for the way the Vietnam veterans were treated upon their return.
The picture above was taken of my friends and I near 6th Ring Road in Kuwait City in 1991. You can see smoke from the burning oil fields in the background. The tank was Soviet-built and prior to this picture had been owned by Iraqi forces.
Happy Veterans Day to my fellow veterans. Proud to have served.
